Two Corbin men arrested for purchasing too much meth ingredient
Police discovered a meth lab Monday afternoon while attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant on a Corbin resident for unlawful purchase of methamphetamine precursors.
Police charged Craig Waldroupe, 43, of Corbin, and James Lynn Morris, 42, of Keavy, with first-offense manufacture of methamphetamine. Waldroupe was also charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine precursors.
Both are being held in the Knox County Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 cash bonds, according to Jail Tracker.
About 5 p.m. Monday, Corbin police went to Waldroupe’s residence at 515 Roy Kidd Avenue, attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant for the purchase of methamphetamine precursors, according to a press release by Major Rob Jones.
Jones said that Waldroupe had gone over his legal limit on the purchase of Pseudoephedrine, which is a key ingredient in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Police were in the process of serving Waldroupe with the warrant when one of the home’s occupants, Morris, fled to the rear of the residence and climbed through a hole in the ceiling in a bedroom that was being renovated, Jones wrote.
Officer Rusty Hedrick gave chase and was able to subdue Morris in the rear of the attic after a short altercation, according to the release.
"Officers then found all the necessary components for the manufacture of methamphetamine inside the residence and one methamphetamine lab currently not in production," Jones wrote.
Police arrested Waldroupe without incident, and both men were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
Jones said that Morris could be facing additional charges when the case is presented to the grand jury related to fleeing police.
Corbin Police Sgt. Glenn Taylor is continuing the investigation. Other officers taking part in the investigation included: Jones, Patrolman Kirk Mays, Patrolman Mike Nunley and Hedrick, a Two Rivers Task Force Officer.
