Two arrested for stealing car from doctor’s office
Two Williamsburg residents are behind bars in the Whitley County Detention Center for allegedly stealing a vehicle last month.
Third-District Constable Dorman Patrick Jr. arrested Sarah M. Bingham, 24, and Ricky Lee Powers Jr., 27, at their 1844 Louden Road residence about 4:30 p.m. Friday serving them with arrest warrants for theft by unlawful taking or disposition auto $10,000 or more.
Patrick said in a release that the arrests were made after a tip was provided concerning their whereabouts.
The pair are accused of stealing a 2011 black Chevy Traverse on Oct. 25.
Louella G. Reeves took out the arrest warrants against the pair.
According to the warrants, Reeves went into a doctor’s office on Oct. 25 and left Bingham and Powers inside the vehicle. When she came out, Bingham, Powers and the vehicle were all gone.
The vehicle was valued at $16,000. In addition, there was a 9 mm gun, and $4,000 worth of jewelry in the vehicle, according to the warrants.
Both Bingham and Powers pleaded not guilty during their arraignments Monday afternoon in Whitley District Court.
Judge Fred White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Bingham and Powers, scheduled a Nov. 14 preliminary hearing in their cases and left their $15,000 cash bonds in place.
White also ordered both defendants to have no contact with the victim or location of the alleged offense.
