Tuesday Night Highlights: Jan. 9, 2024
With a 54-51 over the Harlan Green Dragons Tuesday night, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets are once again 13th Region All “A” champions.
The win over Harlan improved the Jackets to 9-8 overall on the season. It has also qualified them to compete in this year’s All “A” state championship tournament, which is being held at the Corbin Arena January 25-28.
Williamsburg will face the winners of Region 1 in the first round of the All “A” state tourney. In other high school hoops action Tuesday, the Corbin Redhounds and Lady Hounds made the trip to London for a 50th District double header against South Laurel.
The top-ranked Corbin ladies were upset by South in game one, 68-67. The loss drops the Hounds to 9-7 on the year.
The Corbin boys fared better in the late game, defeating the Cardinals 62-51 to improve to 8-4 on the year.
Finally, the Williamsburg Lady Jackets hosted their crosstown rivals from Whitley County High School Tuesday in more 50th District competition. The Lady Colonels managed to come away with the win, 68-41. The Jackets will now set their sights on Barbourville in the semifinals of the girls’ 13th Region All “A” tournament.
