TUESDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS
The Lady Redhounds of Corbin spotted Williamsburg a 15-4 lead then came roaring back to beat the Lady Jackets, 45-23 Tuesday night at WHS.
It was all Williamsburg in the game’s first 10 minutes as the Lady Jackets took a commanding 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter as senior Samantha Burr scored nine of the 11 points.
Burr then hit four straight free throws to put her team ahead 15-4.
That’s when the bottom fell out as Corbin went on an 19-0 run before the Lady Jackets scored another point.
It was senior Kelci Jones and junior Shai Roaden who got hot in the final four minutes of the quarter to lead Corbin back.
Jones scored her first basket with four minutes left in the second period. Wilson then added a basket off a Williamsburg turnover and the Lady Redhounds were within seven.
Roaden then busted back-to-back 3-pointers and the scoreboard read, 15-14 in favor of the Lady Jackets.
The Williamsburg lead disappeared quickly when Jones hit a free throw to tie the game. She followed that with a rebound basket at the buzzer to put Corbin on top at the half, 17-15.
Corbin outscored the Lady Jackets, 13-0 in a span of four minutes.
The Lady Redhounds added the first six points of the third quarter as Jones hit back-to-back buckets once again. Hayley Smith hit two free throws before Jessica Ball finally got Williamsburg on the scoreboard ending a 10-minute dry spell.
Things continued to get ugly for the Lady Jackets as Corbin scored the next 12 points and led 35-17 before Ball scored once again, this time in the fourth quarter.
Corbin never looked back in winning their 11th game of the season. It was a big district showdown as well with Corbin upping their district record to 2-3 while Williamsburg fell to 1-4. Both teams have one key district game left. Corbin will host Whitley County Friday night while South Laurel plays at Williamsburg Saturday. Corbin can clinch the number two seed in the district with a win over the Lady Colonels.
Williamsburg could force a three-way tie in the district if they beat South Laurel and Whitley County defeats Corbin.
A Williamsburg loss and the Lady Jackets take the number four seed.

Whitley County 48
The Whitley County Lady Colonels saw a ten-point lead disappear in the fourth quarter in a 53-48 loss to Knox Central on the road.
“We had some key turnovers and missed some shots in the final minutes,” said Whitley County Coach Larry Anderson.
The Lady Colonels took an 18-8 lead in the first quarter as six different players scored with Brandi Smith tossing in a quarter high five points.
Whitley County expanded that lead to 12 points at the half, 28-16.
The Lady Colonels were outscored 14-12 in the third quarter, but still had a 40-30 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
“We didn’t have a field goal in the quarter,” said a frustrated Anderson.
Knox Central, led by Shelton with 18 points and Tye with 14 points came to outscore Whitley Co. 16-4 and force an extra period as the game was tied at the end of four quarters, 44-44.
