Tues Night Highlights: Corbin defeats Clay, 69-55

On December 29, the Clay County Tigers handed Corbin a 70-59 loss in the championship game of the Redhounds’ own 2018 Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament. On Tuesday, January 8 the Hounds got their revenge, handing Clay their very first loss of the 18-19 season, 69-55.

Corbin dominated for most of the contest en route to their 14-point win Tuesday, improving to 10-4 overall on the year. After the victory, senior Hound Chase Sanders, who led his team with 20 points on the night, said, “We’ve had this game circled on our schedule, and we knew coming in that they were undefeated. We just wanted to get the win, and be the ones to give them their first L.”

“I think we’re finally starting to play as a team, and we’re finally starting to click,” Sanders continued. “For us, I think that is a big step. Our ultimate goal is to get back to Rupp, but right now we’re just taking it game-by-game. It’s one step at a time.”

Corbin head coach Tony Pietrowski said of his team, “This was going to be a turning point in our season one way or another, and my hat’s off to the kids. I’m extremely proud of them. If you look at our last three games, the quality of opponents that we’ve played, and the way that we’ve played, it’s been like night and day. I tip my cap to them for their effort. They deserve a little bit of a reward.”

The Redhounds’ next scheduled game is January 22 at South Laurel. Coach Pietrowski said additional games could be added to the schedule soon, but none have been officially announced at this time.
