Tues. Night Highlights: Baseball and Softball 13th Region Tournaments Update
After Tuesday night’s high school baseball and softball action we now know who will be contending for 13th Region championships later this week.
At Whitley County High School, the Corbin Redhounds topped Knox Central 4-0 to advance to Wednesday’s regional championship game with an overall record of 23 wins and 12 losses. Junior Chase Estep struck out six Panther batters in the win while teammate Ben Phillips went two-for-three at the plate with two RBIs.
As for who the Hounds will face in the regional finals, that would be 50th District foes Whitley County, who defeated Middlesboro in the late game Tuesday, 3-0. Kyle Edmisten and Chance Dismuke teamed up on the mound to keep the Yellow Jackets off the board, while Caleb Rains and Tyler Shelton were responsible for knocking in the Colonels’ three runs. Whitley will come into their championship game against Corbin Wednesday evening with a record of 25-11.
In softball action Tuesday, the Corbin Lady Hounds fought hard against Clay County in the semifinals of their 13th Region tournament at North Laurel High School, but in the end the Lady Tigers were able to prevail by the final score of 8-6.
Corbin was led on the night by seniors Halia Stidham and Madison Hicks. Stidham gave a valiant effort in the pitching circle in her finale as a Lady Hound, while Hicks went two-for-three with three RBIs. Corbin ends their season with an overall record of 17-8. Clay County will advance to face South Laurel in the regional finals Thursday.
