Traffic at new Corbin Middle School snarls Master, Main Street Monday

A new school year and a new school created traffic issues Monday on Master Street and Main Street in Corbin, but officials at Corbin Independent Schools say they are working to resolve the problem.

Superintendent Dave Cox said it was a combination of things that caused the backup including the number of people attempting to drop of students at a given time and many of those individuals asking questions of faculty and staff.

In addition, while many drivers elected to use the alternate exit that comes out on Roy Kidd Ave., Cox said a significant number attempted to get back onto Master Street at Hamlin Ave.

“They ended up right back in the line of traffic trying to get up to the school,” Cox explained adding that the best option for those wishing to go east on Master Street toward Trademart is to use the exit out to Master Street.

“It is going to take a while for people to learn the in’s and outs,” Cox said asking for the community to be patient as this is a new experience for everyone.

Cox said new signage would be installed to better direct motorists in an out of the school.

In addition, after the buses make their drop-offs, vehicles will be directed to the front of the school to increase the pace of student drop-off.

Cox said there was no way to hold a practice for this and Principal Christy LeFevers made a youtube video in an effort to better explain the process.
