Tractor-trailer spills glass jars onto I-75; closes roadway for seven hours
A tractor-trailer overturned Thursday night on I-75 near Williamsburg, closing the busy interstate for about seven hours while crews cleaned up a load of glass jars dumped in the accident.
According to Kentucky State Police Division of Vehicle Enforcement, the accident happened at the 11 mile marker in the southboud lane at about 9:00 p.m. Thursday. CVE Officer Steven Douglas, who investigated the accident, says 39-year-old Samuel M. Davis, of Greenville, SC, lost control of the tractor-trailer he was driving when he swerved to avoid a deer. The rig overturned and dumped 40,000 lbs. of glass jars onto the roadway.
The slow lane of travel was closed while crews cleaned up the glass and wreckage. Davis was cited for log book violations and transported to Jellico Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
CVE Officer Jerry Jones, Williamsburg Police and the Williamsburg Fire Department assisted at the scene.
