Tractor-trailer full of KFC products overturns on I-75 early Thursday; cleanup takes hours
A tractor-trailer carrying KFC products crashed on I-75 early Thursday morning near Williamsburg.
Whitley County Emergency Management Director Danny Moses said the accident apparently happened shortly after 4:30 a.m.
The driver had stopped at Pilot in Williamsburg off Exit 11, then got back onto the interstate, left the roadway and turned over in the median near the 12-mile marker, Moses said.
The semi was carrying food on pallets that ripped through the roof of the trailer when it crashed spilling into the median.
The truck was totaled. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, Moses said.
Both northbound lanes were shut down for about 20 minutes at one point so the truck could be up righted, and then the slow lane re-opened. Moses said that the time consuming part was getting the cargo cleaned up.
R&S Wrecker Service and Eco Tech are assisting with the clean up.
Kentucky State Police, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Williamsburg City Police, the Whitley County Health Department, and Kentucky Division of Emergency Management Area 11 Manager Jerry Rains all assisted at the scene.
Both lanes of I-75 were reopened shortly after 10:00 a.m.
