Town hall meeting Thursday (Nov. 17) to discuss DB logging proposal

A pair of Williamsburg residents are organizing a town hall meeting later this week to discuss the United States Forest Service’s plan to log a portion of nearly 10,000 acres of the Daniel Boone National Forest, which is located in Whitley and McCreary counties. The land would be logged over a 40-year period.

The Jellico Vegetation Management Project (Jellico Project) is “silvicultural management, including: commercial harvest, road work, salvage, and intermediate vegetation treatments to adjust conditions, such that all desired age classes, structures, and species compositions are represented in the project area,” according to the forest service’s website.

The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Whitley County Extension Office, which is off Exit 15 in Goldbug.
