TOURNAMENT TIME
Corbin and Williamsburg will host first-round tournaments in Little League action this week. Area Tournaments will begin around the district Saturday. Williamsburg will host the Area Three Tournament while Corbin will host the 11-year-old District.
The Area Three Tournament will begin Saturday at the Williamsburg Little League Park with Knox County playing Pineville/Bell Co. at 6 p.m., the second game of the night will see the Williamsburg All-Stars taking on Middlesboro.
The winners of the two games will play Sunday at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the district and the loser playing Monday for the right to stay alive and move on to the district. Monday’s loser bracket final will be play at 6 p.m.
The all-stars representing Williamsburg’s 11-12 year old team are: Alec Poore, Jacob Harrison, Justin Solis, Darryl White, Hagen Hawn, Noah Purdie, Tanner Rains, Jordan Osborne, Jordan Irvine, Dalton Peace and Andrew Griffith.
The Area Two Little League Tournament will be held in Manchester. The tournament stats Saturday with Clay County playing North London at 6 p.m., followed by South London vs. Corbin at 8 p.m. The winners will play Monday at 6 p.m. with the losers playing at 8 p.m. The losers’ bracket final is scheduled for Tuesday, June 29 at 7 p.m.
The Corbin 12-year-old all-stars are: Tanner Barnes, Matthew Cornett, Kenton Frederick, Conner Hopkins, Kris Jordan, Colby Lacefield, Corey Ledington, Michael May, Dalton Wooton, Braden Sevier, Clay Shelton, Andrew Williams and Ethan Wilson. Coaches: Gary Helton, Wayne Willis and Tim Barnes.
Minor Leagues
The Area Two Minor League Tournament will be held at South London. The tournament opens Saturday with South London Red taking on North London Blue at 3 p.m., followed by North London Green and Clay County at 6 p.m. Corbin Gray will play South London White at 7 p.m.
Corbin White will play the winner of South Red-North Blue Sunday at 2 p.m. The second game will see the winners of the North Green-Clay County and Corbin Gray-South White at 4 p.m.
The winners’ bracket finals will be held Tuesday, June 29 at 8 p.m. The losers’ bracket will be play Monday-Thursday (June 28-July 1).
Corbin will have two teams in the tournament. The White team will consists of 10-year-olds. They are: Nathaniel Bingham, Chase Couch, Justin Davis, Ryan Felts, Sam Gilbert, Josh Hash, Noah Howard, Matthew Mays, Easton Pack, Devyn Sams, Nathan Sams, Nathan Smith, Jaiden Swanner and Kyle Vanover. The coaches will be Terry Reynolds, Dan Hash, Shannon Sams and Lee Gilbert.
The Gray team will consists of nine-year-olds. They are: Alex Byrley, Matthew Creekmore, Luke Davis, Max Dietz, Zach Faulkner, Waylon Hurst, Brian Jones, Colin Kidd, John Tyler Masters, Austin Reynolds, Jayson Stancil, Jacob Unthank and Caleb VanNorstran. Coaches will be Shane Creekmore, Derik Unthank and Craig Kidd.
Three teams will fight it out in the Area Three Minor League Tournament at Middlesboro. Williamsburg will play Middlesboro Saturday at 6 p.m., with the winner playing Knox County Sunday at 6 p.m. The two losers will play Monday at 8 p.m.
Members of the Williamsburg Minor League All-Stars are: Zach Caddell, Daniel Witt, Dalton Dunn, Elijah Mattingly, Clay Kysar, Hunter Brown, James Huffman, Hunter Patrick, Lucas Combs, Peyton Hamlin, Jeremy Purdie, Caleb Rose and Cameron Bowen.
11-year olds
The 11-year-olds will go directly into district play with the winner advancing to the state tournament to be played at Corbin’s Stricklin Field.
The tournament begins July 1 with Corbin hosting North Laurel at 6 p.m., followed by Tri-Cities vs. Hazard at 8 p.m. Friday, July 2nd; South London will take on Middlesboro at 6 p.m. with Knox County playing Harlan at 8 p.m.
The winners will play July 6 at 6 & 8 p.m., with the finals of the winners’ bracket July 9 at 6 p.m.
The losers’ bracket will be play July 7-July 10 with the survivor advancing to the state tournament as well.
The 11-year-old all-stars include: Cole Brock, Drew Carter, John Austin Childress, Chase Estep, Brayden Dickerson, Alec Gambrel, Matthew Hart, Keaton Knuckles, Hunter Logan, Noah Metzger, Ryan Phillips, Brayden Reedy and Ryan Van Norstran. Coaches: Chad Estep, Scott Griewe, Brian Mason.
