Tough Loss
The Corbin Redhounds were looking for their third straight win on the road at Jackson County last night but couldn’t come from behind late in the game and lost to the Generals, 55-51.
The Redhounds (14-8) got off to a quick start behind senior Ryan Swim, outscoring the Generals 5-0.
However, once the Generals got started the hosts scored 10 unanswered points and took a 10-5 lead five different Generals hit behind the arch and outscored the Redhounds 15-3 from three point range in the first half.
The Generals (12-10) led at the end of the first quarter, 19-12.
Led by sophomore Clint Cashen the Redhounds outscored the Generals 14-10 in the second period as Corbin closed the gap to three (29-26) at the half.
Swim started the second half like he did the game, scoring the first five Corbin points as the Redhounds sliced the lead to one (32-31). However, Swim got into early foul trouble and had to go to the bench with just over five minutes in the quarter.
No one could take control in the low-scoring quarter as Jackson County went to the final period with a 36-34 lead.
The Generals opened the quarter with a 5-2 run, taking a 41-36 lead. But the Redhounds came right back with a 6-0 run of their own and took a 42-41 lead with 4:39 left in the game, forcing Keith Hayes to take a Jackson County time-out.
The Generals took a five point lead (53-48) on two Mikkah Ayers free throws with:48 left.
A Ryan Tate three pointer with :20 left gave Corbin hope but Ayers nailed two freebies with 4.2 seconds to secure the upset over the Redhounds.
The Redhounds will face Bowling Green Saturday at 7:30.
