TJ Powers
TJ Powers, 89, of Savoy Clear Creek Road, Williamsburg, departed this life on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Jellico Community Hospital.
He was born on April 26, 1929 in Whitley County, to the late Rev. James Arthur Powers and Laura Bird (Pennington) Powers.
He was also preceded in death by his wife Veda Powers, the mother of his children; son, Rev. Fred Powers; grandson, Joshua King; stepson, Kenny Pennington; brothers and sisters, Oscar, Chester, Bart, Daimon, Pairon, Nelson, John, Susie, Dovie, Ada and Velma.
T.J. was a Deacon at Wofford Baptist Church since 1973 and a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Powers of Williamsburg; two daughters, Teresa Powers and Melissa Hamblin (Bill) of Williamsburg; two sons, Ronnie Powers and Ricky Powers of Williamsburg; one stepdaughter, Glenna Diane Wilson (Scott) of Knoxville, TN; six grandchildren, Crystal Rains (Donnie) of Corbin, Stephanie Pettit (Daniel) of Williamsburg, Rev. Rob Powers (Tammy) of Williamsburg, Ronnie Powers II (Patricia) of Fanning Springs, FL, Jonathan Powers (Deanna) of Florida and Sarah Moyer (Robbie) of Chiefland, FL; three step-grandchildren, Adam Hill, Seth Wilson and Emily Wilson; eight great-grandchildren, Morgan Rains, Amber Rains, Dawson Powers, Mason Powers, Sali Powers, Dylan Powers, Julie Powers and Jonathan Eli Powers Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Patty Powers of Williamsburg and Bobbi Powers of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
The funeral service was held Sunday, August 19, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Rose officiating.
Following the service he was laid to rest in the Whitley Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers were Curt Meadows, Bill Hamblin, Jerry Croley, Bob Gray and the employees of Williamsburg Nursing Home.
