Thursday afternoon crash kills one
A single vehicle crash in Williamsburg early Thursday afternoon claimed one young man’s life and sent two more to the hospital.
The accident happened about 12:20 p.m. on Main Street between Ky. 204 and Ky. 92W.
The car that the men were riding in went over a 10 to 15 foot embankment, trapping the deceased and another passenger inside.
Emergency crews from Williamsburg Fire Department extricated one seriously injured patient from the vehicle.
An emergency helicopter landed in the parking lot of the Hal Rogers Family Entertainment Center, and apparently flew the extricated young man to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
His condition is unknown except that he suffered serious injuries in the accident.
A third person was reportedly involved in the crash, and suffered less serious injuries.
Emergency crews had to extricate the deceased from the vehicle.
Williamsburg police and Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies are attempting to reconstruct the accident in an attempt to determine the cause of the accident.
Wet road conditions likely played a role in the crash.
The accident had the roadway tied up for over two hours.
Whitley County EMS and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
