Three Tennis Hounds advancing to Sweet 16

The Corbin Redhounds Tennis Team sent 10 players to the 2022 KHSAA state tennis tournaments in Lexington, and after Tuesday’s play three advanced to the Sweet 16.

Ten Corbin Redhound tennis players are competing in this week’s KHSAA state championships in Lexington, including regional champs Dylan Koen and Quinn Maguet.
On Tuesday, Corbin’s doubles team of McArthur/Lundy defeated Scott/Edwards of Bullitt East 6-3, 3-6, 1-0. This win advanced them to the round of 32 later in the day where they faced the team of McNamee/Harris from Belfry. The ladies from Belfry took the 6-0, 6-0 win, ending McArthur and Lundy’s state tournament run.
Meanwhile, the team of Rachel and Katie Morton fell after a fierce match in round one. The duo was bested by McCraney/Morris from North Oldham, 6-3, 7-6, 1-0.
Corbin’s female singles competitor at state, Lindsay Jones, managed to pick up a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories on Tuesday, first over Aysha Garza from Bourbon County and then over Emma Wright from Bullitt East, to advance to this year’s Sweet 16. Jones is scheduled

to play Bailey Scott from North Oldham Wednesday morning.
On the boys’ side, the Redhound team of Ball/Byrley got past their first round opponents, Jones/Walton from North Laurel, winning 6-2, 6-0. They were stopped in the second round, however, with the team of Harpum/Marlette from Ryle winning 6-1, 6-2.
Corbin’s Quinn Maguet and Dylan Koen were dominant Tuesday, winning 6-0, 6-0 in round one against Polly/Ison from Letcher County Central, and then picking up another 6-0, 6-0 victory in the afternoon against the team of Robinson/Court from Marshall County. Maguet and Koen will compete in the Sweet 16 round Wednesday morning against Radasch/Park from North Oldham.
Finally, Corbin’s Nate Hill received a bye in the first round of the boys singles bracket, but was defeated by Owen Brown of Grayson County in the round of 32. Brown won the match 6-3, 6-1.
