Three Corbin athletes sign with colleges Tuesday
Three senior Corbin Redhound athletes signed on to play their respective sports at the collegiate level Tuesday morning.
Two football Hounds, Aaron Money and Eythan Sims, and one soccer Lady Hound, Abby Baker, signed their letters of intent in front of coaches, family members and classmates inside the gymnasium at CHS. Money, who signed with the University of Pikeville, and Sims, who signed with Lindsey Wilson College, helped lead the Corbin football team to a 13-2 season in 2017 including district and regional championships, and an appearance in the Class 3A state championship game at Kroger Field in Lexington.
Speaking about his two outgoing seniors, Redhounds head coach Justin Haddix said at the signing Tuesday, “This is a testament to the hard work they’ve put in, and if they continue to do that they’re both going to have really bright futures. We’re just super-proud of them.”
Money will be joining Whitley County quarterback Dylan Wilson at UPike next season. The Bears went 5-6 in 2017. Sims will join former Corbin teammate Lucas Ellison when he arrives at LWC. Ellison and the Blue Raiders went 11-1 last season including the program’s first perfect regular season record, a Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division championship title and an appearance in the NAIA National Championship Series quarterfinals.
As for Baker, who became the soccer Lady Hounds’ all-time leading scorer in her senior season at CHS, she will be joining a Transy team that went 6-9-3 in 2017. Head coach Hannah Goins said at Tuesday’s signing, “We are extremely proud of Abby, and all of her accomplishments. I’ve had the pleasure of coaching her since middle school, and she’s just an amazing soccer player. She has done a lot for our team, and our program. She has an amazing work ethic, and we know that she’s going to continue to do amazing things.”
