Third Annual Corbin Rod Run returns Friday – Saturday (May20-21) at The Arena
The Third Annual Corbin Rod Run will be back at The Corbin Arena Friday and Saturday and bringing with it hot rods, street rods, classic cars, trucks and more.
In addition, the Kentucky Truck Invasion, or a “show within a show” is also returning for its second year.
Promoter Rodney Buckner said that last year there were a little over 200 vehicles taking part in the two shows, and that he is hoping for over 350 plus vehicles for this year’s show.
“It could be more than that. The weather is expected to be pretty good Thursday and Friday for the show,” he added.
“An impressive lineup of vintage and custom vehicles from all over the region and beyond will be on display for all to see, both inside The Corbin Arena and outside on the grounds,” according to a news release.
The Corbin Rod Run is an open car show with some high end vehicles inside that won’t show at outside shows.
“The Kentucky Truck Invasion is a Chevy and GMC truck show. It is just targeting Chevy and GMC trucks. They are real hot right now … They are hotter now than they have ever been,” Buckner said.
Last year there were about 125 trucks for The Kentucky Truck Invasion, and Buckner is looking to “double that or more this year.”
This year’s event will feature celebrity appearances by Mike Cockrell and Jerry Benson from the television show “The Moonshiners.” They will be signing autographs on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Automotive and specialty vendors will be set-up both inside The Corbin Arena and outside on the grounds.
Last year there were almost 30 vendors and Buckner is hoping for 50 to 75 vendors this year.
A swap meet area is also provided for those hard-to-find parts. Special souvenir T-shirts will be available for both The Corbin Rod Run and the Kentucky Truck Invasion.
Show hours Friday are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Spectator parking is free.
Spaces inside of The Corbin Arena are full, however, there are over 1,000 outside spaces for participants. Outside participant registration is $40 for both The Corbin Rod Run and Kentucky Truck Invasion. All registered participants receive two adult passes for both days of the event. Free trailer/hauler parking for all sizes.
Buckner noted that he promotes car shows in other states, and gets a lot of Kentucky visitors to his shows in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A few years ago Buckner and his DJ, who is from Winchester, got to talking about how it would be good to add a show in Kentucky, and then he started looking at venues.
One of the things that sold him on here was the indoor portion of The Corbin Arena.
The Corbin Rod Run is sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts, National Parts Depot and Nsane HotRodz. Kentucky Truck Invasion is presented by Nsane HotRodz and sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts, National Parts Depot and Taylor Customs.
These events are produced and promoted by Surfboard Promotion, which features automotive events in the eastern part of the United States.
