The Fine Arts Association of Southeastern Kentucky, Inc. to begin 49th season with gala
The Fine Arts Association of Southeastern Kentucky, Inc. has announced the lineup for its 49th season, and a gala, featuring the music of the Southern Fried Jazz Band, will be held Sunday, Aug. 22 at the Corbin High School Auditorium to celebrate the beginning of the season.
The Board of Directors of the Fine Arts Association are proud to offer a diverse blend of music, theatre and dance this season.
The season will kick off with the gala, and event that is free and open to the public. The Southern Fried Jazz Band offers some of the most authentic Dixieland music on the scene today. The mission of the band is to keep good jazz alive. Its members, all show wise artists in their own right, are hand-picked by leader Don Edwards.
The gala will begin at 2:00 p.m. There will be a reception with refreshments following the concert.
Everyone is encouraged to celebrate the birthplace of Kentucky Fried Chicken by wearing red and white to this event. There will also be a Colonel Sanders impersonator on hand to entertain and meet all those who attend.
The concerts for the 49th season include:
• Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra — Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. This chamber orchestra continues to delight audiences across the USA on its coast-to-coast tours. They perform a wide range of music, including familiar and unfamiliar works with precision and flair.
• David Higgs, Concert Organist — Sunday, October 3, 2010, 3:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church in London. One of America’s leading concert organists, David Higgs performs extensively through the United States and abroad.
• Pridonoff Duo, Husband and Wife Pianists — Saturday, October 23, 2010, 7:30 p.m. at the Gatliff Chapel on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg. This husband and wife duo are internationally known and have been featured on CBS Sunday Morning as performers.
• My Fair Lady, University of the Cumberlands Musical Theatre — Friday, Oct. 29, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 31, 2:00 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 4, 7:30 p.m. at the Kohn Theatre. Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady is one of the most popular shows in musical theatre.
• The Concordia Choir, a 72-voice A Capella Ensemble — Tuesday, March 1, 2011, 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, London. Widely considered one of the world’s premier undergraduate vocal ensembles, known for its distinctive sound. Comprised entirely of students at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
• The American Chamber Players — Tuesday, March 22, 2011, 7:30 p.m. at Grace on the Hill United Methodist Church in Corbin. An ensemble of flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello and piano that performs repertoire ranging from familiar masterpieces to neglected gems and even newly commissioned American works.
• Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble — Friday, April 8, 2011, Corbin High School Auditorium. This dance group continues to demonstrate its founder’s belief that children can achieve artistic excellence equal to adults. The ensembe is a professional modern dance company that uses artists 8 to 17 years of age.

Students can subscribe for $15, Adults at $60 per season and a family membership is $125. Sponsorship packages, ranging from $150 up to $3,000 are also available.
