The Colonels Players presents, ‘An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe’

There is a saying in show business that, “The show must go on.”

While COVID–19 has kept Whitley County High School students from attending in-person classes, The Colonel Players have been preparing for their first show of the year, “An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe,” to go on beginning Friday night.

The curtain is scheduled to rise at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday night at the amphitheater located on the main campus.

Theater Director David Sweet said the show is a compilation of six of the author’s work’s, including poems, “The Bells,” and “The Raven.”

In addition, short stories, “The Telltale Heart,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” and “The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether,” are featured.

“It was a script that was made to be broken up,” Sweet said of the show noting that it enabled the cast to practice in small groups. “Wednesday was the first time we had the whole cast back together since August.”

Sweet said using Poe’s work fit right in with the spirit of Halloween.

“That is why we chose it,” Sweet said noting the majority has a serious theme.

Because of COVID–19, the audience will be limited.

Mask will be required. Temperature checks and contact tracing will be performed prior to entry.

Admission is $5 with all proceeds going back into the theater program.
