Tennessee woman dies in fatal crash near state line
Rain and wet road conditions are being blamed for a fatal crash Thursday morning on I-75 near the state line that claimed the life of a Tennessee woman.
The crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. in the southbound lane near the one-mile marker.
Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement officers determined that William Linton, 30, of Lancaster, was operating a 1995 Toyota when he lost control hitting a 2011 Dodge Ram and camper trailer, which was parked in the emergency lane, according to Public Affairs Officer Steven Douglas.
Linton along with three other passengers, Aisha Brogli, 20, of Somerset, a two-year-old girl, and Shannon Leffew, 38, of Strawberry Plains, were transported to Jellico Community Hospital for treatment.
Leffew was pronounced dead a short time after she was arrived at the hospital, Douglas said.
The operator of the Dodge, Everett Bowling, 65, and his passenger, Kathy Bowlin, 53, both of Ione, Oregon, were not injured in the crash.
Neither drug nor alcohol involvement are suspected.
Everyone involved in the crash except Leffew was wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash, Douglas noted.
Officer Jerry Jones continues the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Officer Duffy Sutton, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Whitley County EMS and members of South Whitley Volunteer Fire Department.
