Tenn. fugitive nabbed during traffic stop in W’burg

Williamsburg police arrested a Tennessee fugitive during a traffic stop early Wednesday evening.

Williamsburg Police Officer Brandon White charged Latosha P. Batchelor, 30, of 430 Mt. Morgan Road, with being a fugitive from another state.

White and Assistant Police Chief Rick Mosley conducted a traffic stop on West Main Street near the intersection of Ky. 204 about 7:38 p.m. after receiving information that one of the vehicle’s occupants was possibly wanted on Kentucky and Tennessee charges, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird said in a press release.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered that Batchelor was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Whitley County charging her with second-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12 years old, fourth-degree assault, alcohol intoxication and resisting arrest, according to the release.

Officers also determined that Batchelor was wanted in Tennessee on charges of evading arrest, theft under $500, resisting arrest, assault on an officer, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and escape, the release stated.

She was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center where she is being held without bond awaiting extradition to Campbell County, Tennessee.

District Judge Cathy Prewitt ordered Batchelor held in contempt of court during a hearing Thursday afternoon, and sentenced her to 30 days in jail.

Prewitt scheduled a hearing for Monday afternoon concerning Batchelor’s Campbell County and Whitley County charges.
