Taylor Scramble

The Third Annual Joey Taylor Memorial Golf Scramble was held Friday at the Williamsburg Golf Course. Play was close throughout the day and after 18 holes two teams tied for top honors with 14-under.
A playoff was held in near darkness with the team of Ronnie Garland, Shane Tarvin and Josh Dobson edging out Sean Barton, Jason Vance and Oscar Davenport.
One stroke behind was John Davenport, Bob Rose and Tyler Marlow in third place with a 59.
“We were very successful in raising $2,000,” said Donnie Davenport, the tournament’s organizer. “It went very well. We had 24 teams, the most we have ever had. It’s growing each year.”
“We had players as far away as Knoxville and Oneida, Tennessee,” said Davenport. “It just keeps getting bigger and better.”
The scramble is held in memory of Joey Taylor, a member of the Williamsburg Golf Course and his son, Joey, who plays for Whitley County High School. The proceeds go to help fund Joey’s lessons, clubs and expeneses dealing with golf.
“Next year will be his last year in high school,” said Davenport. “We plan on continuing the tournament and will be taking nominations for a receipent for the 2007 tournament,” said Davenport.
“A member of the Golf Course may nominate an area high school player,” Davenport said. “For that matter, anyone can nominate a player by contacting a member of the Golf Course.”
“We want to help area high school players for years to come,” he added.
