Tattersall man allegedly robbed at gunpoint Monday night

If you are going to meet someone in real life that you have been corresponding with over the Internet, then take some common sense precautions, such as meeting in a public place the first time.

This is part of the advice that Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell has for people after a Corbin man was reportedly robbed at gunpoint by someone that he had met over the Internet Monday evening.

Harrell said that about 9:15 p.m. Monday his deputies received a report from 911 about a robbery that had taken place on Winner’s Circle in Tattersall Trails Estates, which is located outside of Corbin.

The victim, Bryan Moye, 23, told police that he had contacted a woman on the Internet and had invited her to his residence.

Moye told police that about 10 minutes after she arrived at the residence, four other people entered the residence.

“He ran out the back door. They ran him down, brought him back in, and held him at gunpoint while the other four individuals went through the residence taking various items of value. They left in a small sedan,” Harrell said.

Harrell said that the woman, who Moye initially invited to his residence, gave him a name but authorities suspected that it is probably a false name.

She was described as an African-American female. Three of the four people, who arrived at the residence minutes after the first female, were described as African-American males, who were about 6’0” tall and weighing about 200 pounds. The fourth person was another African-American female, who the victim couldn’t describe to police, Harrell said.

“You have to watch what you do on the Internet because while you are typing and talking to them Sue could become George,” Harrell noted. “It’s dangerous to inject yourself into something like this.”

Moye was not injured during the incident, just shaken up.

Harrell estimated that the robbers probably took about $1,500 worth of items, including some cash and a couple of weapons among other items.

Harrell said that authorities are just in the “initial stages” of the investigation and don’t have any suspects yet.

The sheriff’s department is asking residents living on or near Winner’s Circle to please review any home surveillance video footage around the time of this crime.
