Suspicious vehicle leads Laurel deputies to drug bust

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies began an investigation into a suspicious vehicle at a north Corbin gas station Monday morning and arrested two people on drug trafficking charges.

Tiffany P. Whitehead, 39, of Corbin and Charles C. Davidson, 54, of Barbourville were both arrested after deputies reported finding crystal methamphetamine and assorted drug paraphernalia inside the car that had been reported stolen from a rental car company.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said Deputy Daniel Grigsby and Deputy Josh Morgan were on patrol in the area off of Exit 29 about 4:15 p.m. when they noticed a black 2018 Nissan Sentra parked near the gas station.

“It was parked in such a position that it looked suspicious to the officers,” Acciardo said adding that the engine was running.

When deputies ran the license plate, they discover the plate was stolen and upon further investigation, they learned the vehicle had been reported stolen.

In addition to more than 2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, Acciardo said deputies located scales, pipes baggies and U.S. currency.

Whitehead was charged with receiving stolen property of the value of $10,000 or more, theft of a motor vehicle registration plate, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition, she was served with a two separate bench warrants out of Whitley District Court charging her with failure to appear on counts of resisting arrest, public intoxication – controlled substances and giving an officer a false name or address.

Davidson was charged with operating a motor vehicle on a suspended/revoked operator’s license, theft of a motor vehicle registration plate, receiving stolen property of the value of $10,000 or more, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Whitehead and Davidson were both lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Facility.
