Superheros visit three-year-old fighting rare digestive disease

To look at three-year-old Gunner Bowlin, who will turn four next month, you wouldn’t guess that anything is wrong with him. He appears to be a normal, active kid, who likes to run around and play with other children.

Batman and Spiderman made a special visit to Gunner Bowlin Monday, who suffers from Hirschsprung’s Disease and Short Bowel Syndrome.

Monday afternoon, he had an early birthday party at the Williamsburg Pizza Hut where his mother works as a waitress. Batman and Spiderman stopped by to say hello.

“You can look at Gunner and you would think there is nothing wrong with him. He looks like your average everyday little boy. Behind his big smile and his clothes he has a lot going on. A lot of people are like he doesn’t look sick. Just because it is hidden, doesn’t mean it is not there,” said his mother, Carol Smith.

“One of the things I hate about Hirschsprung’s Disease is you will get in this routine and everything will go so smoothly. Then he will get a fever and boom. You’re like, its Hirschsprung’s Disease. We have to go to the hospital for at least a week to make sure it is not a line infection that can kill him in three hours.”
