Stolen ATV tip leads to arrest of Williamsburg duo
A recent tip about a stolen 2021 Polaris ATV resulted in the arrest of a Williamsburg duo and the recovery of the four-wheeler.
About 9 p.m., on Nov. 25, Williamsburg Police Officers Chad Foley and Greg Rhoades arrested Billy Curnutt, 51, and Tammy Gray, 51, both of Croley Bend Road, charging each of them with receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, according to a Williamsburg Police Department release.
Curnutt was also arrested for operating on a suspended/revoked operator’s license and failure of non-owner to maintain required vehicle insurance. Gray was also arrested for permitting an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle, according to their arrest citations.
Gray was the owner of the SUV, according to her arrest citation.
A traffic stop was conducted about one mile south of Williamsburg in the Emlyn community on a black SUV pulling a trailer with a Polaris ATV matching the description of the stolen vehicle, according to the release.
Prior to the traffic stop, Foley had learned through Whitley County E-911 that Curnutt’s driver’s license had been surrendered, according to an arrest citation.
After stopping the vehicle, police checked the VIN number on the ATV, and learned Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Caleb Hester had an open case on the four-wheeler, which had been reported as stolen on Aug. 22, according to an arrest citation.
Both were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center, and released Monday shortly before noon, according to jail records.
Williamsburg Police Lt. Brandon White and Officer Eddie Cain assisted with the investigation.
