Stivers talks taxes, legislative session during joint chamber address Tuesday

Area business owners and local government officials filed into The Corbin Center Tuesday morning for a monthly luncheon co-sponsored by the Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and Knox County Chamber of Commerce, where Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers spoke to those in attendance.

During his time on stage, Stivers touched on a few local-centric topics such as the strides made over the years at the Southern Kentucky Business Park and the continued success of The Corbin Arena; however, much of what Stivers focused on was changes he hopes to see implemented during the next legislative session in 2023 and the steps required to achieve them in the years following. Chief among those changes Stivers talked about was altering Kentucky’s current tax code in such a manner that he said would greatly help middle-class, working families, but would also be “fair and equitable” for all Kentuckians by allowing them to decide how they get taxed.
