State Police catch Corbin man after short chase in Woodbine
Kentucky State Police had to chase down a Corbin man who tried to flee in his pickup truck and then ran off on foot after running the truck into a ditch in Woodbine, Wednesday.
According to KSP Sgt. Jeremy Lee, about 4:20 p.m. Trooper Jay Sowders saw the pickup truck belonging to Charles R. Salmon, 45, of Corbin on Ky. 6 and gave chase as Salmon was wanted for questioning in a theft complaint.
When Sowders activated his lights, Salmon accelerated in an attempt to flee. Lee said the chase lasted about five miles and reached speeds up to 75 mph. However, as Salmon entered a curve, he lost control of the truck on the wet road and drove into a ditch.
Salmon reportedly tried to run away, but was apprehended after a short chase by Sowders.
Salmon was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, driving a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol/drugs – third offense in five years, driving on a DUI suspended license, reckless driving, improper passing, no insurance, resisting arrest and failure to wear seat belts.
Lee said Sowders discovered unspecified drugs in Salmon’s possession. As a result whe was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and second-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Sowders also served the warrant on Salmon, which charges him with one count of theft by unlawful taking.
Salmon is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
