Stakes get higher as district football schedule continues Friday night
District football will continue Friday night with the stakes getting higher for the local teams as Corbin heads to Lincoln County, Williamsburg hosts Pineville, Whitley County hosts North Laurel on senior night and Lynn Camp welcomes Harlan.
Corbin Redhounds
Coach Tom Greer’s Redhounds will be looking to keep the undefeated season going Friday night after the 56-0 win last Friday at Knox Central.

“The biggest thing was we wanted to go up there, get out of the gates early, and put the fire out,” Greer said of facing the Panthers. “I’m really proud of our players. They did that.”
The Redhounds’ offense put up 415 total yards.
Five Corbin ball carriers combined for 219 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, led by Ethan Gregory who carried the ball nine times for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Seth Mills ran for 55 yards and three touchdowns while Cameron Combs had 54 yards and two touchdowns.
Combs also completed five passes for 124 yards and backup Kade Elam completed seven passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Dakota Patterson led the receivers, catching three passes for 54 yards.
Sam Farmer caught the lone touchdown pass for Corbin on the night.
“The offense was clicking,” Greer said.
Defensively, Corbin held Knox Central to 48 yards of total offense while forcing two turnovers.
Brayden Reynolds and Evan Baker led the defense with five tackles each. Garrett McFadden and Mikey Neal each recovered a fumble.
Lincoln County comes into Friday’s game with a 3-5 record following a 29-0 win at home against Wayne County.
Greer noted that Lincoln County is, historically, a tough place to play, and the Patriots are returning the vast majority of a team that came to Campbell Field in 2020 and lost 14-8.
“In 2019 at Lincoln County it took until the last minute for us to pull out the win,” Greer said.
“Lincoln County will be a war,” he said. “We will have to go play and play very well.”
Williamsburg Yellow Jackets
Following the home loss to Sayre on Oct. 1, Coach Jerry Herron, Jr. said the Jackets would get things fixed.

Friday night, Williamsburg appeared to have done just that, coming out of Harlan with a 48-0 win.
“We actually got back to work with our tail between our legs to get some things done,” Herron said of the Jackets.
Herron credited the defense for a solid effort.
The Jackets held the Green Dragons to 95 yards of total offense while recovering two fumbles.
Offensively, Williamsburg put up 599 total yards.
Quarterback Sydney Bowen completed 12 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns and ran the ball six times for 140 yards and a touchdown.
Jayden Rainwater carried the ball six times for 128 yards and two touchdowns.
Martin Shannon, Bryson Potter, Tanner Manus and Rainwater each caught a touchdown pass.
“We could pretty much do anything we wanted to do except when we made our own mistakes,” Herron said. “We had some penalties, but they were aggressive penalties.”
Herron credited his players for the effort they gave throughout the week in practice.
“It is a simple game. If you practice well. You usually play well,” Herron said.
“I’m really pleased with the effort,” he said.
Williamsburg will host Pineville for a game that could decide the district championship
The Mountain Lions come into the game with a 6-1 record after defeating Lynn Camp last Friday, 51-6.
Pineville is quarterbacked by Jason Nunley, who completed seven passes for 81 yards and a touchdown against Lynn Camp.
Senior Running back Devon Morris led the Mountain Lions with six rushes for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Herron said while the Jackets played better football at Harlan, the players have to continue to bring the humble attitude at practice as the Mountain Lions are more than capable of making it a one-sided game.
I’m really excited about where we are at,” Herron said. “We have the potential to be a good football team. But we cannot believe that we have arrived.”
Whitley County Colonels
Whitley County will take the field at Colonels Stadium for the final time in 2021 as the North Laurel Jaguars come calling.
The Colonels are returning home following a 50-16 loss at Southwestern last Friday.
Quarterback Caden Petrey threw for one touchdown pass and Mason Croley ran for the other.
North Laurel comes into the game with a 5-2 record after losing at home to Pulaski County last Friday, 40-16.
A win by the Colonels would put them in a position to be the three seed in the district playoffs if they can follow it up with a win over South Laurel next week.
Lynn Camp Wildcats
Lynn Camp will host the Harlan Green Dragons Friday night.
The Wildcats are coming off of a 51-6 loss at Pineville.
Quarterback Tylen Smith ran for the Lynn Camp touchdown.
Smith carried the ball 12 times for 92 yards while Brody Lane had 13 carries for 33 yards.
Smith also completed six passes for 34 yards.
