South Carolina couple caught with pot during I-75 traffic stop
Williamsburg police charged a South Carolina couple with marijuana possession and other charges following a traffic stop along I-75 last week.
In addition to the marijuana charge, Officer Mike Taylor also charged Steven Bauer, 38, of Easley, S.C., with speeding, driving while under the influence, and resisting arrest.
Officer Susan Petty also charged passenger April Langford, 38, of Easley, with alcohol intoxication.
The arrests stem from a traffic stop during the early morning hours of July 7 near the 14-mile marker.
Capt. Eddie Cain stopped a northbound vehicle for going 84 mph in a 70 mph zone, according to a Williamsburg Police Department press release.
"Upon approaching, Capt. Cain and Officer Taylor noticed a strong smell of alcoholic beverage. The officers also noticed that the driver had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet," Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson said in the release.
After police interviewed Bauer and placed him under arrest, he became uncooperative with Taylor, the release stated.
"The subject did not comply with any verbal commands given by Officer Taylor. Officer Taylor had to escort and assist suspect into the police cruiser. The suspect nor Officer Taylor were injured during the incident," Jackson said in the release.
Both Bauer and Langford were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
Kentucky State Police Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer and High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force Member Landry Collet assisted at the scene.
Taylor is continuing the investigation.
