Single-vehicle crash destroys utility pole in downtown Corbin; driver uninjured

Power was knocked in parts of downtown Corbin for about an hour Saturday after an SUV collided with a utility pole.

This utility pole on Kentucky Avenue was knocked down in a collision with an SUV Saturday afternoon. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Corbin Police Officer Estes Rhodes was called to the scene near Eighth Street and Kentucky Ave. about 2 p.m. to investigate the single-vehicle collision.

Rhodes said the driver, Melanie Reynolds, 32, of Williamsburg, told police she was travelling south when another vehicle stopped in front of her, forcing her to swerve out of the way.

“She hit the pole head-on,” Rhodes said adding that Reynolds’ Chevrolet Trailblazer stopped about 50 feet from the scene of the crash.

Reynolds was not injured in the crash. However, her SUV had to be towed from the scene.

Rhodes said Reynolds stated she was travelling between 35 and 40 mph at the time.

Corbin firefighters were also called to the scene.
