Shot fired during home invasion robbery in north Corbin
Shots were fired during a home invasion robbery early Friday morning at a residence in north Corbin, and the victim of the break-in was taken to the hospital following the incident.
According to Kentucky State Police Post 11 Public Affairs Officer Don Trosper, officers responded to the robbery at Skinner Lane, located 10 miles south of London in the North Corbin area of Laurel County. Three unidentified individuals apparently entered the residence and began striking 26-year-old Dewayne Byrge, of Corbin, and demanded money. Police were notified at about 12:17 a.m.
During the assault, a single gunshot was fired from a handgun and the bullet traveled through a wall and into a nearby apartment.
Byrge, who was visiting at the residence when the incident occurred, was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin to be treated for his injuries. He was later released.
KSP Det. Donald Wilson is in charge of an investigation into the case. He was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Steve Walker, Trooper Les Moses, Trooper Don Sivils and Trooper Michelle Lunsford.
