Semmel inducted into Mansfield University Society of Honors

Keith Semmel of Williamsburg, KY was inducted into the Mansfield University Society of Honors during Alumni Weekend 2016, held June 10-12.

Semmel, a 1976 Mansfield graduate, received the Distinguished Educator Award, which recognizes outstanding service, dedication and leadership to education.

After receiving his BA in Speech Communication, and being named Outstanding Senior in 1976, Semmel went on to earn a Master’s (1977) and PhD (1980) in Interpersonal and Public Communication from Bowling Green State University.

He began his teaching career at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, as an assistant professor of Speech Communication and is is now a professor of Communication Arts at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY.

Semmel designs and teaches a multitude of classes in media and popular culture. He also presents on these topics at numerous campus lectures, professional meetings and community gatherings and has been involved in multiple radio and video productions at University of the Cumberlands.

Semmel has been published four times in various dictionaries and reference texts regarding popular culture and media. He continues to serves the University of the Cumberlands in numerous capacities as an advisor and committee member. Semmel is also a member of the Kentucky Communication Association, the Pi Kappa Delta National Communication Honorary Association and the Delta Sigma Rho Tau Kappa Alpha National Forensics Honorary Association.

While at Mansfield, Semmel served as student representative on the Council of Trustees and was Student Government Association vice president. He was also a member of the Marching Band and Jazz Band, was on the summer orientation staff, was a member of the Speech and Debate Team, performed in Theatre productions and was staff cartoonist for the Flashlight student newspaper.
