Sarah D. Fredericks
Sarah Doretha Fredericks, age 97, of the Fairview Community of Whitley County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday morning, October 25, 2022, at the Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on April 23, 1925, to the late Charles Fredericks and Beatrice (Siler) Fredericks in the Creek Mud Community of Whitley County, KY.
She was the first Charter Member of the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church located in Fairview, KY. Ironically, she was also the last living Charter Member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church.
She taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, was Church Clerk for 50 years, and was a Girl Scout Leader for 40 years. She read the Bible in its entirety 40 times.
Sarah worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, during World War II, until August 1945. She then worked at the old Jellico Hospital for a number of years, then at the new Jellico Community Hospital for three years, and later for the Wilkens Medical Group for 10 years in the Insurance Department. She retired at age 62 to care for her mother.
She earned a Black Belt in Karate at age 63. She later worked at the Boston Elementary School with Save the Children from 2001 – 2013, until it was disbanded. She then worked as a substitute teacher for a few years.
In addition, she also volunteered for 26 years with the South Whitley Volunteer Fire Department where she was Secretary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant sister and brother, Mary, age 3, and J. B., age 14 months; and four adult brothers, Earl Fredericks, G. L. Fredericks, Paul Fredericks, and James Carl Fredericks.
She is survived by three sisters, Anna Mae Collins, Perna Ruth Leach, Charlotte Bays, and husband, Larry; brother, Charles Kelly Fredericks; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends of all ages, neighbors, and other relatives to mourn her passing.
Funeral services was Thursday, October 27, at Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronald Wilson and Bro. Larry Bays officiating.
Pallbearers were Elvis Lawson, Brandon Lawson, Peyton Lawson, Richard Leach, Steven Blaylock, Michael Arnstead, and Tyler Lawson.
Interment followed the funeral service in the Lot Cemetery located on the Lot-Mud Creek Road in Whitley County, KY.
