Same Result
How even can two teams be? Last week the Redhounds defeated the Rockcastle County Rockets, 5-4 in eight innings in Corbin. Monday night the tables were turned on the Redhounds as Rockcastle County took a 5-4 win in eight innings in Mt. Vernon. The two teams have played 16 innings and would be deadlocked at 9-9.
Corbin (10-4) took an early lead in this one as Jake Mahan and Josh Hamlin scored in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead. Mahan reached base on an infield error and Hamlin followed with a single. The two stole base and were at second and third when Kenny Kysar hit a two-run single for the lead.
Rockcastle County came back and tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second, but the Redhounds quickly moved back on top in the third. Josh Ware hit into an error and stole second. With two outs in the books, Kysar again came through with a single to left field as Ware scored on the play for a 3-2 lead.
The Rockets (10-7) fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth only to see the Redhounds retake the lead in the top of the fifth. Hobe Watkins led off the inning with a single and stole second. But he was picked off at second base. The out became huge as Kysar hit a solo home run to push the Redhounds ahead, 4-3.
Corbin entered the bottom of the seventh with a one-run lead. However, Cash led the inning off with a walk. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Williams then scored on a Colby Brown base hit.
Redhound coach Jeff Garmon elected to walk McClure with one out to set up the double play. Gray flew out to shallow centerfield and Phil Boreng grounded out to Mahan at short to end the inning with a tie score.
Corbin failed to score in the top of the eight but Sandusky crossed the plate in the bottom of the eight to get the win for the Rockets. Sandusky drew a walk to lead off the inning against starter Hobe Watkins.
Lucas Henson came on in the inning to replace Watkins but was greeted with a Jared Brown triple to win the game.
The Redhounds will host the Somerset Thursday before hosting the Cumberland Falls Invitational this weekend. Lexington Christian, Sheldon Clark and Barren County will be in town for games at House Field, Friday and Saturday.
