RV fire being investigated as arson
Police and fire officials are investigating a weekend RV explosion at a home on KY 1804 that is being called suspicious, but has not been ruled as arson yet.
According to Whitley County Constable Jim Thornton, who said he is not officially investigating the incident but assisted at the scene, officers responded to the call while tending to an ATV accident nearby Sunday night. Thornton said that officials arrived shortly after the call came in and even by the time they got there, the vehicle was already fully engulfed with flames.
He also said that the owners, Kevin and Adrian Lawson, reported hearing an explosion prior to seeing the flames and that a verbal dispute with neighbors on the same day is also being looked into.
“The call came in around 11:30 p.m. SUnday and we were probably just about 5 to 10 minutes from the scene,” Thornton said. “It was already fully engulfed when we got there and even though they haven’t said whether or not it was arson, there were signs of an accelerant.
“The owners of the RV said they heard an explosion and that by the time they got outside, it was almost completely burned,” he added. “They are investigating it and like I said, it is suspicious because there had been some verbal exchanges prior to all of this Sunday.”
