Russell D. Roberts
Russell D. Roberts, age 77, of Williamsburg, KY, received his healing and was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Monday, April 17, 2023 at Baptist Health Corbin. He was surrounded by his devoted wife and daughters.
Russell was born in Wayne County, KY on April 12, 1946, the first son of Dempsey Roberts and Nannie (Vaughn) Roberts.
As a small child, he often pretended to drive an old log truck near their home in Wayne County. He lived in Piqua, OH during his childhood and teen years, and moved back to Whitley County, KY at age 19.
He worked with his dad and brothers to clear their beloved family farm, coming down every weekend.
Russell was never one to shy away from work. He began working as a young boy passing newspapers, then began pushing an ice cream cart a few years later.
He worked with a tree trimming crew, a traveling painting crew, in a sawmill, and was a manager at the Sunoco service station in Williamsburg, KY. He finally began working his dream job of driving a “big truck” at Overnite Transportation, where he worked for 33 years (even when the company changed hands to UPS Freight).
It was during this time he met and married his “lovely wife”, as he lovingly called her, Christine. He was a member of Winchester Holiness Church of God (Winchester, KY) for almost 20 years before moving to Williamsburg, KY, where he became a member of Emlyn Baptist Church. He was a prayer warrior and a wonderful witness for the Lord.
Those that knew Russell know that he never met a stranger and he loved to cut up and make people laugh. He was quick to offer an encouraging word and a helping hand to any in need. He loved his family and worked tirelessly to provide for them.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, Dempsey Roberts, and mother, Nannie (Vaughn) Roberts; his sister, Virginia Sue Roberts; his brother Dennie Maxwell Roberts; and his brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Wolfgang.
He is survived by his wife Christine (Wolfgang) Roberts of Williamsburg, KY; daughters, Laura (Steve) Lewis of Gray, KY; and Amy (Jonathan) Bowman of Williamsburg, KY; step-son Robert (Robin) Isaacs of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Cody (Erin), Emily, Hannah (Frankie), Hunter, Haylee, Easton, Gunner, Abbye, Annabelle; brother, Cecil (Wanda) Roberts; brother-in-law Steve (Bonnie) Wolfgang; sisters-in-law, Mary Kubin, Betty Wakefield; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, April 22, at Ellison Funeral Home.
Burial followed at Russell Roberts Cemetery.
Due to his love of children, Biblical values, and education, the family asks that in lieu of flowers make donations in Russell’s name to Faith Christian Academy in Williamsburg, KY.
