Rural King may move into old Corbin Kmart building

Rural King may move into the old Kmart building in Corbin.
The former Corbin Kmart building may see new life soon.
While no official announcement has been made, Corbin Building Inspector Frank Burke said officials from farm and home store Rural King are considering the building for a new location.
Burke emphasized that the process is in the very early stages and nothing has been finalized.
Burke confirmed he has received a site plan from the company, but that no building permit has been issued.
The company that bills itself as “America’s Farm and Home Store,” started in Mattoon, Illinois in 1960. It currently operates more than 100 stores in a twelve state area across the Midwest and Southeast.
The stores offer everything from livestock feed and farm equipment to housewares and toys.
“You never know what you will find at your local Rural King and that’s why the trip is an adventure,” the company website states.
The building has been vacant since mid April when Kmart closed the doors.
The closing was announced in December as part of a company wide closure of 30 Sears and Kmart stores.
