Rotary Club President thanks Empty Stocking Fund supporters
To the Editor:
Signups for the children who will participate in the 2016 Christmas Party have now closed.
The 2015 Christmas party of the Southeast Kentucky Empty Stocking Fund was a great success as we were able to accept more than 500 children from 205 families into the program. Each family received a blanket, books, candies, and board games; and, each child received a wrapped gift, a pair of athletic shoes, and five (5) pairs of socks. There were some bicycles donated by Waste
Connections for about 10 % of our children. As usual, Forest Lanes provided free bowling, and soft drinks. Pizza and Company (locally owned restaurant) provided all the children with pizza. We gave out coats for many children but some were left out due to a shortage of funding. Children throughout Whitley, Knox and Laurel Counties from new-born through age 17 from low or no income families are eligible to participate. Communities in these three counties include London, Lily, Keavy, Williamsburg, Woodbine, Rockholds, Barbourville, Heidrick, Gray, Lynn Camp, and Corbin. Since 1988 many thousands of children have enjoyed their participation in the parties at Forest Lanes, Cumberland Falls Hwy in Corbin.
This year the party will start with a movie, popcorn and drinks at The Tri-County Cineplex and will continue at the Corbin (Technology) Center both of which are on Cumberland Falls Hwy, in Corbin, Ky. Thanks to all those great friends who’s financial and in-kind contributions will make this our 29th year the best yet. The contributors will be recognized each week and until after the new year 2017 begins. To start this year with a big bang we acknowledge our wonderful hospital, Baptist Health Corbin and their donation of $10,000.00.
On behalf of all Rotary Club of Corbin members, our parent and guiding force for this program, President Dan Clifford, I thank all of the volunteers and supporters.
