Rockholds woman charged with running from police

A Rockholds woman and her boyfriend were arrested Thursday night when her attempt to keep them from going to jail by fleeing the scene of a traffic stop ended when the car got stuck in a ditch.

Kentucky State Police arrested 24-year-old Brandi Calloway, 18-year-old Tyler Ramey and Derrick Partin.

Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer at Post 10 in Harlan, said Trooper Sammy Faris stopped the 2002 Chevrolet driven by Calloway after he witnessed the vehicle cross the centerline on Ky. 3606 multiple times.

During the traffic stop, Farris took Ramey and Partin’s information and determined they both had outstanding warrants.

After placing Partin in his cruiser, Faris reportedly returned to the vehicle to arrest Ramey.

When Farris asked Ramey to exit the vehicle, Ramey reportedly refused, stating that he wasn’t going to jail.

“Mrs. Calloway then stated she did not want him to go to jail,” Farris wrote in the arrest citation.

When Faris insisted that Ramey was going to jail, he stated that Calloway slammed the vehicle in drive and sped away from the scene, south toward Ky. 6 in Woodbine.

Faris gave chase, over multiple back roads, until the vehicle finally got struck in a ditch on Hills Cemetery Road.

While Calloway remained in the vehicle, Ramey allegedly got out and ran off on foot. Faris gave chase and caught Ramey, who continued to resist but was finally secured in handcuffs.

Calloway was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, reckless driving, driving on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, failure to wear seat belts, no insurance, no registration receipt and possession of drug paraphernalia – advertisement.

In addition to the bench warrant, Ramey was charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, menacing and failure to wear seat belts.

Calloway and Ramey remain in the Knox County Detention Center.
