Rockholds woman allegedly shoots at house

Julia Miller is accused of shooting at a Rockholds home Friday afternoon.

Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies say they don’t know why a Rockholds woman allegedly shot at her neighbor’s home on Whetstone Road home five times early Friday afternoon.

Sheriff Colan Harrell said the victim and the accused know each other but so far have refused to tell police how they know one another.

“What relationship they shared, I don’t know. As to why and what happened, I don’t know,” Harrell noted. “Neither one of them wanted to share that with us.”

About 2:20 p.m., Sgt. Todd Shelley responded to a Whetstone Road residence near the Rockholds community to investigate a complaint made to Whitley County E911 that shots were fired from a vehicle towards a house, according to a sheriff’s department release.

Shelley made contact with the homeowner, Debra Ann Lambdin, who lived at 3010 Whetstone Road, who identified Julia Miller, 71, of 1610 Whetstone Road, as the person who drove by a fired several rounds towards her house, according to an arrest citation.

Shelley located Miller at her home and found five bullet casings and a Ruger .22 caliber pistol in her vehicle, according to a sheriff’s department release.

When Shelley inspected the victim’s home, he discovered that a bullet had penetrated a windowpane and came to rest before entering the home, the release noted.

Shelley charged Miller with first-degree wanton endangerment and lodged her in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Harrell noted that this situation is one where someone easily could have been injured but thankfully wasn’t.
