Rockholds parents arrested after child calls 911

Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies investigating a 911 call from a nine-year-old stating that he had been left home alone, arrested his parents.

Sheriff Colan Harrell said deputies and social services workers were called to the residence on Johnny Holler Road about 3 a.m.

“According to the child, the mother had been absent for over a day, and the father had left with another child,” officials with the sheriff’s department stated in a press release.

The mother, identified as 27-year-old Rhonda Flood of Rockholds was located by Kentucky State Police at a Laurel County motel.

While an unidentified male was arrested at the time, officials with the sheriff’s department stated that Flood was released and returned home.

State police were later dispatched to the residence in response to a disturbance complaint and charged Flood with public intoxication, second-degree disorderly conduct and menacing.

Deputies responding to a domestic complaint on Johnny Holler Road Saturday conducted a traffic stop in the area on a vehicle driven by 35-year old Courtney Flood, who was identified as the child’s father.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they reported finding a digital scale and a crystal substance suspected to be “ice” methamphetamine.

Courtney flood was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, no seatbelt and driving on a suspended/revoked operator’s license.

The sheriff’s department is continuing the investigation and further charges may be filed.
