Robert Larry “Bob” Dobson
Robert Larry “Bob” Dobson, age 74, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Jellico, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday morning, March 23, 2022, at his home.
He was born on April 17, 1947 to the late Joe C. Dobson, Sr. and Bessie (Gilreath) Dobson in Jellico. His paternal grandparents were the late John Dobson and Alice (Burton) Dobson. His maternal grandparents were the late William A. Gilreath and Ida Mae (Creekmore) Gilreath.
Bob enjoyed a lifelong love of music – especially “oldies.” Throughout the years, he amassed a collection of hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of vinyl records and cassette tapes of nearly every genre of music. His dream job was to be a “DJ” at a radio station where he could play any kind of music, or any particular song, he desired. He also loved wearing T-shirts that had the radio station call letters and logos from throughout the region. He also had a large collection of T-shirts from radio stations.
Bob worked for many years as a file clerk for Knox County at the City & County Building. He was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Jellico.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Dobson, James H. “Jimmy” Dobson, and William Grady Dobson.
He is survived by two brothers, Joe C. Dobson, Jr., and wife, Judy, of Corbin, Kentucky, and Thomas Ray Dobson, and wife, Debra, of Powell, TN; 17 nieces and nephews; 28 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends, special caregivers, neighbors, and other relatives to mourn his passing.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2022, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral will follow on Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. E. Wayne Barton, II, officiating.
Graveside service and interment will immediately follow the funeral service in the Jellico Cemetery.
