Roark selected as new Athletic Director at CHS

Andrew Roark was selected as the new Athletic Director at Corbin High School Thursday.

On Thursday, it was announced that Andrew Roark would become Corbin High School’s newest Athletic Director.

Roark, who will begin his duties as the school’s new AD on Monday, is a 1998 graduate of South Laurel High School, where he played football as a Cardinal. He played collegiately at Georgetown, where he would later return as a student assistant. He also served as a student assistant at Union College in Barbourville before taking a coaching job in North Carolina in the early 2000’s.

Roark would later return home to Kentucky where he would coach at Bell County and North Laurel before eventually coming to Corbin nearly a decade ago. During his time with the Redhounds he has served in many different capacities, most recently coaching linebackers and defensive linemen.

Roark said that it will be tough for him to step away from coaching in order to take on the role as the new Athletic Director at CHS, but he is also very excited about what the future will hold. “It will be tough leaving the boys and the guys that I’ve coached with,” he said. “But I’m not really leaving them. In this new capacity, I will get the opportunity to be an advocate for all coaches, and for all of the kids in every athletic program. That is something that I’m really looking forward to.”

Roark said that his goal in life was always to be a coach and a teacher, but he recalls looking up to Athletic Directors when he was young and in school. Now that he is about to enter into that role himself, he says that he hopes to be able to live up to the standards that have been set by those who have come before him.

As for getting to be the AD at Corbin, a school that is rich in athletic history and tradition, Roark said, “There are no better fans than the ones who support the athletic programs here at Corbin. Our motto is that we are always striving to be the best, and my goal is to do my part to help carry that on.”

Corbin Schools Superintendent David Cox said of Roark, “We went through a very extensive interview process where we looked at several candidates. We feel like Andrew will be a good fit because he has a lot of experience coaching, and he is an outstanding teacher. He is an extremely hard worker, and we are excited to name him as our new Athletic Director.”
