The Corbin Redhounds upped its record to 3-0 with a road win over the Clay County Tigers, 50-40 in Manchester Tuesday night.

Corbin eased out to a 7-4 lead early in the first quarter and never trailed the Tigers in a very deliberate first half by the two coaches.

Senior Madison Johnson scored seven of the first 12 points as the Redhounds took a 12-9 lead at the first stop.

Neither team got out of single digits in the second period as Corbin won the quarter 7-6.

Senior Isaac Wilson put the Redhounds ahead 14-9 before the D. J. Wilson hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to two.

Johnson stretched the lead back out to four with a pair of free throws, but Codi Roberts sliced the lead to one with a minute left in the period. The Tigers had a chance to take the lead when Josh England went to the line for two free throw attempts, but the junior forward missed both shots.

Corbin’s Matthew Taylor hit a buzzer beater to send the Redhounds to the dressing room with a 19-15 lead.

Corbin was able to pick up the pace and employ a tough 2-3 zone defense in the third quarter. It enabled the Redhounds to push the lead out to 11 points by the end of the period.

Wilson accounted for seven points in the quarter while Aaron Manns added a basket and Johnson went to the line hitting one of two free throw attempts.

Corbin got a big boost when Taylor nailed his second buzzer beater, a three-point goal that put the Redhounds ahead, 34-23 heading into the final period.

Clay County (2-1) made a run early in the final quarter, outscoring the Redhounds, 9-3 behind the shooting of Roberts, who had five points including a three-pointer that sliced the lead to 37-32.

However, Manns went to the inside for a basket after a Corbin time-out with 4:35. He connected on the basket and drew the foul for a three point play.

It turned out to be a big basket as Clay County scored the next five points and the Corbin lead was three, 40-37 when junior Allen Whitaker was called for a technical foul with 2:44 left in the game.

Wilson hit one of two from the line and the Redhounds added a basket to push the lead out to six.

The Redhounds hit 7-of-10 free throws in the final 1:45 to hold off the Tigers.

Lynn Camp wins

Tyler Wagner scored 19 points and Cody Mobley added 16 as Lynn Camp down the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets, 72-64

The Jackets, who led 50-47 leading into the final period was led by C.J. Jones with 16 points.

Whitley falls to SL

Whitley County hit only 9-of-22 free throws in a 65-54 loss to the South Laurel Cardinals.

Austin Ponder led the Colonels with 16 points while Matthew Gilbert led the Cards with 14.

Whitley County trailed 29-25 at the half.
