Richard Arlen Parks
Richard Arlen Parks was born February 4, 1931 and passed away May 14, 2019 with family by his side. He was a Christian and now in the presence of God.
He was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy, parents John and Irene Parks, and a son-in-law Walter Hunter III.
Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Barton Parks, daughter Vicki Posey (husband Dan), son Jeffery Parks (wife Lee), daughters Donna Hunter and Dana Bowdoin (husband Mark), grandchildren Dr. Andrew Parks (wife Kristin), Rebecca Hubbard (husband John), Kelsey Parker (husband Will), Kyle Hunter, Rachel Shipman (husband Doug), and Sarah Parks; great Grandson Everett and Grant Hubbard, Jeffrey Parks; a sister Norma and brother Jerry (wife Alana).
After graduating from Corbin High School, Richard served in the United States Air Force. He then attended University of Kentucky, earning a degree in engineering. He had a 30 year career with U.S. Steel Corporation as a Metallurgical Engineer in Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Alabama, before settling in Houston.
Pallbearers were his son Jeff Parks, grandsons Andrew Parks and Kyle Hunter, sons-in-law Dan Posey and Mark Bowdoin, longtime friend Earl Pennington, Tim Logan, and Tim Barnes.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 19th, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.
Military honors were presented by American Legion Post 88 Honor Guard.
Internment was at the Pine Hill Cemetery.
