Four Corbin players scored in double figures as the Redhounds rolled past the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets in district play Tuesday night at Gilliam Gym.
The win helped Corbin clinch at least a tie in the district standings with only one game remaining for the Redhounds and that comes Friday night at Whitley County.
Corbin (4-1) stands one game ahead of South Laurel and two games in the win column ahead of the Colonels.
Williamsburg fell to 0-4 in district play. However, the Yellow Jackets will host the tournament beginning Monday. Feb. 18.
Sixth man Kevin Goins led the Redhounds to the win with 20 points while senior Robbie Igo added 18 points from his post position.
Seniors Kaleb Maguet and Hunter Grubb added 13 and 12 points respectively. The two combined for seven 3-pointers in the win.
The game’s leading scorer was Williamsburg sophomore Corey Shelton who tossed in 25 points. Sophomore Skylar Griffith added 17 points.
Corbin (17-6) trailed early in the game because of Griffith’s hot shooting. Maguet hit a 3-pointer to give the Redhounds the quick lead, but Griffith scored the next seven points to send the Yellow Jackets on top, 7-3. Williamsburg (3-10) maintained the lead until the final minute when Goins scored seven straight points for the Redhounds. The Yellow Jackets went from a 17-12 lead to a 19-17 deficit in a matter of a minute and 13 seconds.
A basket by Griffith tied the game at 19-19, but Farley hit a free throw to send the Redhounds ahead by one.
A 3-pointer by Grubb and another free throw by Farley pushed the Redhounds ahead 24-19 when Williamsburg Coach Patrick Robinson called for a timeout.
Dalton Sizemore scored for the Jackets out of the timeout, but freshman Trevor Hill knocked down two baskets and the ‘Hounds were back on top, 28-21.
Corbin pushed the lead out to nine on a basket in the paint by Igo, 35-26. It was a double digit lead when Zack Henson hit a pair of free throws with 1:09 left in the half.
The Redhounds pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Jackets, 25-15 in the third quarter and 19-11 in the final eight minutes.
Igo led the way in the second half with 12 of his 18 points in the third and fourth quarter.
Corbin will be at Whitley County Friday night for a boy-girl doubleheader with the Redhounds and Colonels playing first at 6 p.m., while the Yellow Jackets will host the top-rated Clay County Tigers Thursday night. They will host the Whitley County Colonels in a double-header Monday night in a district game.
