Ryan Moses just keeps on ticking and his numbers just keep on climbing. The Williamsburg senior quarterback hit on 18 of 30 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Yellow Jackets to a 54-26 win over the Clinton County Bulldogs Friday at Findlay-Legion Field.
Moses had TD passes of 15, 5, 38 and 39 yards with senior Dusty Brown on the end of two scores. James Payne and Steven Taylor added TD passes from Moses. Moses and Travis Thomas also scored in the lopsided victory.
The big night allowed Moses to become the all-time leading passer at Williamsburg with 8,084 career yards. He passed current assistant coach Andy Greer, who finished with 7,797 yards.
“Our defense played great,” said Williamsburg Coach Jerry Herron. “They are the reason we won. The difference in the game was the defense, we played great tonight.”
The Yellow Jackets (3-4) certainly didn’t have any problem scoring against the Bulldogs defense and jumped ahead, 22-0 in the opening period. Williamsburg added eight points in the second quarter for a 30-0 lead at the break and extended that to 46-14 heading into the final period.
Even Andrew Root, a junior lineman, got into the scoring column when he took a blocked punt to the end zone.
The Yellow Jackets, now 2-0 in the district, will travel to Campbellsville Friday night. A win over the Eagles will put Williamsburg in the driver’s seat for their third straight district title, something that’s never been done at WHS.
“They are a well coached team,” Herron said of Campbellsville. “They have a good offensive line and a good defense. It will be a challenge for us.”
“We need this win for a home playoff game,” said Herron. “We are a battle tested team. We have played a tough schedule and are hopefully prepared for this game.”
“Campbellsville has already beaten Lynn Camp, so we need to win this game because we’ll be playing Lynn Camp the following week.”
“I don’t know if we have turned things around yet, but we’re getting there,” said Herron. “Things are looking good because some of the kids are getting used to their positions.”
