A Lynn Camp rally fell short Friday night as the Wildcats tried to come from behind to beat the Raceland Rams in the first-round of the KHSAA playoffs in Raceland. Lynn Camp spotted the homestanding Rams a 19-0 lead before losing 19-13.
A Sam Hieneman interception spoiled the come-from-behind bid. Raceland quarterback Tyler Farley passed for two touchdowns and Cody Grant scored on a 36-yard interception return to give the Rams, the number two seed in District 5, a 19-0 lead in the third quarter.
However, the Wildcats refused to quit as seniors Tyrone Person and Wesley Steele sparked a Lynn Camp rally. Person scored in the third quarter and Nick Mills booted the extra point to pull the Wildcats within 19-7.
Once the ‘Cats got the ball back, Steele broke loose for a 35-yard run early in the fourth quarter to get the ‘Cats within a touchdown.
The Lynn Camp defense was able to stop the Rams at the Wildcats 43-yard line. Steele and company drove the ball down to the Raceland 25 before senior quarterback Josh Smith was picked off. Raceland held on and was able to run out the clock.
Steele led the Wildcats on the ground with 138 yards on 30 carries.
Farley and company accounted for 208 yards through the air. He hit on 22 of 38 passes and two touchdowns.
The loss ended the Wildcats season at 4-7.
