RAIN-SOAKED WIN

The Corbin Redhounds edged the Whitley County Colonels 1-0 Thursday in a cross-county match at the Corbin Soccer Complex.
Corbin Coach Armando Cima said it was a very tough win for his young Redhounds. “I thought it was a very good game – exciting and hard fought by both teams.”
“I thought we had the better of the early play and created a few good chances. Our goal came from one of these chances – Aric Young picked up a rebounded shot on the left side of the goal and turned it outside away from the defense and played it back out to the top of the box to Tulio Canineu who touched it by a defender and hit a shot off the underside of the crossbar in the upper corner,” Cima said.
Cima said his team played well throughout the contest.
“We played well even after the goal, but Whitley came on in the last part of the first half and it was a more even game,” Cima said.
“In the second half I thought we played well in short stints and had the better of the play overall. Whitley threatened a few times but I thought our defense played really well. They play with a lot of energy and determination and their individual and team game is developing well – it will be an interesting District Tournament – there could be 3-4 teams in the hunt by the end of the regular season,” Cima predicted.
Corbin was scheduled to take on the Eagles of Lexington Christian Tuesday and will be on the road Thursday when they take on district foe, Oneida Baptist.
